Newer oils (over the past two years or so), have changed a little bit in that they are linen stretched over plywood panels rathe than the tradtional stretcher bars. The advantage to this is that I can press harder and effectively get different textures off of the hard surface. I have also worked directly on primed panels in smaller sizes, restricting myself size-wise because of a fear of warping. The results have been to my liking.
